Welcome to the blog set up by Pauline Schnapper, Professor of British Civilisation at the University of Paris 3.

Here, you will find material for the Second Year class in British civilisation as well as the M1 and M2 seminars, including class schedules, reading lists and documents. You will also find a summary of British politics, with a special emphasis on my 'favourite' topics, ie political parties, institutions, Europe and foreign policy, and links to useful sites.

Conservative party conference

David Cameron gave the keynote speech to his party's annual conference yesterday. It wasn't as noticed as it normally would have been because of the financial turmoil - which in strictly electoral terms is rather good for Gordon Brown, who can show his economic competence in dealing with the crisis. Cameron's speech was rather short on policy, but insisted on his readiness to become Prime Minister, his good judgement and Labour's mistakes. Noticeably absent from his speech were the USA, Europe and Iraq. You can read it in full here.
