Welcome to the blog set up by Pauline Schnapper, Professor of British Civilisation at the University of Paris 3.
Here, you will find material for the Second Year class in British civilisation as well as the M1 and M2 seminars, including class schedules, reading lists and documents. You will also find a summary of British politics, with a special emphasis on my 'favourite' topics, ie political parties, institutions, Europe and foreign policy, and links to useful sites.

European Council
The European Council met for two days in Brussels and came up with... no solution to the Irish conundrum. Time was left (until October) to the Irish government to try to find one which would both respect the voters and prevent the total collapse of the treaty. Meanwhile the Czech government hinted that ratification might be impossible in their country, where there might not be a majority in Parliament in thses new circumstances. N. Sarkozy and A. Merkel insisted for that the treaty was not dead, and that further enlargement would be impossible without it. In other words, what a mess we are in.
